Pienso en 2021 como el año en que...
- Conseguí el trabajo por el que tanto había trabajado, y ahora soy Profesora Asistente en NCSU.
- Descubrí que me puedo quemar mucho del trabajo y que es complicado para mí darme cuenta de ello. Y ahora estoy mucho mejor, sobre todo desde que me puse como prioridad y llevo una vida más equilibrada.
- Me mudé a Raleigh, mi nueva ciudad, y me gusta más que vivir en una ciudad pequeña. Pensar que puede ser mi ciudad para una temporada muy larga me hace feliz.
- Volví a nadar, lo cual se sintió genial la primera vez y todas las que vinieron después. Ahora estoy esperando a mi nuevo bañador para ser más rápida.
- No pude visitar Madrid por otro año, pero pasará el siguiente verano.
- Mi amiga Sara me visitó aquí en Raleigh, viniendo a EEUU por primera vez sola, y yo tengo mucha suerte de tenerla como amiga.
- Mi amiga Maria también me visitó y yo visité New England, y esos dos viajes fueron como un respiro para coger aire más familiar.
- Recibí las noticias de que no necesitaba una visa para visitar Canadá por unos días. Las noticias llegaron tarde, casi como un accidente, pero ahora lo sé y toca visita en 2022.
- Mis seres queridos siguen al otro lado del teléfono, sanos y felices, compartiendo sus vidas y esperando abrazarme más pronto que tarde. Gracias por todas las llamadas y mensajitos, por todos los momentos tontos compartidos virtualmente, y por estar ahí para celebrar y para llorar. Gracias, gracias, gracias.
- Recibí la noticia de dos bodas y me hace muy feliz que por fin vayan a pasar.
- El bichín ya se sabe mi nombre perfectamente y me llama tía Laura cuando llamo.
- Conocí a una persona maravillosa que hace que mi vida sea más divertida, feliz y completa. Llegó solo hace un par de meses, y me siento tan afortunada y agradecida por tenerte en mi vida ahora que es complicado encontrar las palabras para expresar todo lo que siento. Estar enamorada me sienta bien y eres la mejor pareja que podía esperar.
- La pandemia continuó, con sus olas arriba y abajo, y yo seguí sintiéndome agradecida por todo lo contado y por mucho más.
Para el 2022 yo solo espero...
- Poder visitar mi familia y amigos alrededor del mundo.
- Poder seguir creciendo y aprendiendo en mi trabajo, incluso cuando siento que no va de la manera que me gustaría.
- La boda de Mario y Eva salga bien y puedan celebrar su amor oficialmente sin más sustos. Yo me aseguraré de que sintáis mi presencia por allí en un día tan especial.
- Todos continuemos estando sanos, tanto como se pueda, cuidándonos y cuidando de los que nos rodean.
- La pandemia llega a un punto más estable donde podamos volver a una vida más normal.
- Yo continuo compartiendo mi vida contigo, Nenito, y ya estoy deseando que lleguen todas esas aventuras que estamos preparando y todas las que nos vengan.
- Tú, que estás leyendo esto, espero que tengas un buen año. Sea lo que sea que pasó en 2021, espero que el 2022 sea un año mejor para tí y que puedas estar agradecido por todo lo que pase.

I think about 2021 as the year that...
- I got the job I had been working hard for, and now I'm an assistant professor at NCSU.
- I discovered I could be burnt out from work and had a hard time realizing it. And now I'm better since I prioritize and balance my life in a better way.
- I got to move to a new city, Raleigh, and I like it more here than in a small town. Thinking it could be my city long term makes me happy.
- I got to swim again, which felt amazing the first time, and all the others. Now, I'm just waiting for my new swimsuit to be even faster!
- I could not visit Madrid for another year, but it will happen next summer.
- My friend Sara visited me here in Raleigh, coming to the US for the first time alone, and I'm very lucky to have her as my friend.
- My friend Maria also visited me and I visited New England, and those two trips felt like breathing again some familiar air.
- I got the news that I do not need a visa to visit Canada for a few days. The news arrived late, and almost by accident, but I know I can do it and I will do it in 2022.
- My loved ones are still on the other side of the phone, healthy and happy, sharing their lives and waiting to hug me sooner rather than later. Thank you for all the calls and texts, for all the stupid moments we shared virtually, and for being there to celebrate and to cry. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- I got the amazing news of two weddings and I'm so happy they will happen.
- El bichín knows how to say my name perfectly and calls me tía Laura when I call.
- I got to meet an amazing person that makes my life funnier, happier, and more complete. You just arrived a couple of months ago, and I feel so lucky and grateful for having you in my life now that it's hard to put into words all these feelings. Being in love fits me well and you are the best partner I could hope for.
- The pandemic continued, with ups and downs, and I could still say I was grateful for all I mentioned above and much more.
For 2022, I just hope...
- I can visit my family and friends around the world.
- I can continue growing and learning in my job, even when I feel it's not going the way I want.
- Mario and Eva's wedding goes well and they can celebrate their love officially without more issues. I'll make sure you feel I'm there on such a special day!
- We all continue being healthy as much as we can, taking care of ourselves and the ones around us.
- The pandemic will get to a more stable point where we can go back to a more normal life.
- I get to continue sharing my life with you, Nenito, and I'm looking forward to the adventures we are planning and the ones that will come across our paths.
- You, that are reading this, have a good year. Whatever happens in 2021, I hope 2022 is a better year for you and that you get to be grateful for everything that happens.
